Daniel Christensen

24 years old

Aalborg, Denmark

For how many years have you been working out and why?

"I have been working out for 5 years straight. I started back in 2012 after graduating from highschool. The main reason why i started was because i struggled with overweight. My weigth was approximately 103kg at the time and i was very inactive. I had gained alot of weight the last year of highschool and i became depressed and insecure about myself. I had to do something about my life, otherwise my life would be too miserable to live. I could "see" the person which i didn't wanna become. I was ready to do anything to change the old me to a better person. It was very strange and diffcult in the beginning, but suddently it became an addiction to me, and now i can't live without fitness. I always have in mind why I'm doing this, and today it's the same reason as when i started. I can't explain how important it is to have a main motivation. Without any reason to do this, at some point you gonna lose your motivation, so find that inner spark and keep it alive!"

Which kind of workout do you practice?

"Mostly i'm doing bodybuilding because I love the way I can sculpture the different body parts and make that perfect X-shape. Wide shoulders and a small waist. (Men's physique)."

What’s your favorite workout and why?

"I really enjoy to smash my arms and shoulder at the same time. It gives a really satisfying pump, and yes.. Who doesn't like big arms??"

What’s the worst workout and why?

"I don't have any body parts where i think "Ohh.. i won't do this today". But when I'm on-season I struggle with the cardio sometimes."

Which body part are you proud of the most and why?

"It must be my back and my arms because I think these body parts are developed and show my physique in a way where I can proud of it. Of course I'm still proud about the rest of my body, but I still have alot of work to do."

"I think my chest and calves lacks a bit, but I'm trying to hit these body parts more often, mostly 2 times a week."

Have you ever competed and what position did you get? Would you do it (again)?

"I'm gonna compete at Newcomers this month (May) It's gonna be my first show ever to compete in, so i'm very excited and can't wait to display my best physique! I don't know if i will compete again, time most show."

UPDATE 04.06.2017 “Now I had my first competition. I competed in mens physique, Newcomers. I placed 4 out of 13. I got to the finals, where top 6 was chosen – we got on stage again before we got our results. How did it feel like on stage? ”It’s the most incredible experience. The results gave me the feeling of pride. It was so unique, standing there in front of the judges and audience, in the best shape of my life. I finally felt all the hours – all the late-night sessions in the gym and all the hard work in the kitchen paid off!"

Are you getting any help with your workout?

"Yes, i have a personal trainer. He is quiet important to me because we're working out a long term plan, and together we're working hard to reach the goal. When I'm on diet, he will take the charge and make the adjustments in my meal schedule and my workouts so I can stay on track and just focus on the main goal by working hard."

What kind of diet plan are you on?

"At the moment I'm doing carb cycling which consists of 2 or 3 days with a low amount of carbs and the 1 day where i comsume a higher amount of carbs. This kind of diet plan works very well for fat loss."

Are you taking any supplements?

"Actually I use a lot of supplements: In the morning I take omega-3 (healthy fat). Before workout I'll take pre-workout and beta-alanine to give me some extra energy and focus. For intra-workout I use glutamine to maintain musclemass while cutting, but it's not a must. After workout I'm consuming creatin and whey protein. Before I go to bed I take ZMA to improve my sleep and speed up the restitution."

Are there any favorite products? Tights, shakers, bars or so?

"MyProtein has some good products with a high standard. I really like the salted caramel whey protein, It's so delicious! From time to another I like to change the taste so I can avoid getting tired of the same taste. - When it comes to my clothes. I really like tanktops and jogging pants from Nike or Adidas. I feel comfortable when I wear that."

Where do you work out and why?

"In general I workout in Fitness World. I like to switch between the gyms so I can try something different and feel different atmospheres."

When are you satisfied? Or will you ever be?

"I will never be satisfied but I will always be proud of my acheivements. It's so important not to be satisfied because then you will start losing focus and then you wont perfom 100% in the gym. In the end you will not improve because it's "good enough". So it's very important to me to stay hungry for more."

How much does your workout mean for you and why?

"As I said before it has changed my life. Without this fitness-lifestyle I don't know where I would be today. It has improved my life in every aspects, so i'm so happy and proud the be where I am today. My view of the life has change to be positive and I believe in myself. If you don't have that mental strength and don't believe in yourself, it will be difficult to acheive anything in life."

"I'm 1.78 cm and my current weight is 77 kg. 3 weeks out."

How much time do you use on fitness?

"It's a 24/7 job. Maybe I use between 1,5 - 2 hours at the gym, but after you have to eat proberbly, preparing food and get 7-8 hours of sleep. So for me it's all the time."

Do you have an idol - if yes; who?

"Yes! Greg Plitt without any doubt. The man was so inspirational, I remembered I always listened to him in the beginning when I started. Acutally I still do. He has alot of 'spot on comments' and he knows how to inspire people to become the best version of themselves."

Of all the things you have accomplished, during your 'fitness life' - what are you proud of the most?

"It's difficult to select one thing, but I'm proud of being who I am today. It's not about losing almost 30kg. It's about the person I have become. People around me, including myself, know when I say "Guys, I will acomplish that" then I'm going to do it. It's all about the mindset, and how you see the world. If you believe it, your body and mind will find a way - and then you'll reach your goals!"
